Meditation

403132198One life event can change everything.

I vividly remember visiting my grandma’s house as a teen. I was lying across her bed with my eyes glued to the tv screen in front of us. We watched for the 1000th time the film What’s Love Got to Do with It, starring Angela Bassett; it was one of her favorite movies.

The movie was about Tina Turner’s life, including her trauma, rise to stardom, abuse in her marriage to Ike Turner, and journey toward self-love and spirituality.

There was an emotional heaviness present in the film. Still, besides all the moving, traumatic scenes, one scene stood out to me as overwhelmingly powerful when I watched the movie alone as an adult.

In one scene, Tina rushes to her friend’s place, crying and looking for support. She felt stuck in an abusive marriage, trapped by fame, and lacking something profound in her life. Her friend mentioned how she recently began practicing Buddhism and chanting, explaining how life-changing the decision was for her.

Meditation helps you gain inner peace and clarity.

As Tina’s friend began showing Tina how to chant to find peace and clarity, she said, “When you chant, things become clearer. It’s like life’s mirror. And when you can see yourself clearly, you can change.”

Chanting is a powerful form of meditation that requires no religion but encourages deep inner peace, relaxation, and stillness to the body and mind. Some people chant while breathing deeply, reciting the sound “Om.” The vibrations chanting creates in the body have a relaxing effect, and studies have shown that it can reduce anxiety in minutes.

Suppose chanting isn’t your thing, or you can’t find any alone time at home. In that case, there are several other forms of meditation (walking meditation, guided imagery, yoga meditation, Chakra meditation, breathing meditations, etc.). One of these might be more your cup of tea.

“Meditation can help us embrace our worries, our fear, our anger; and that is very healing.
We let our own natural capacity of healing do the work.”

1921960106I can help you discover serenity.

Over the years, I have talked to many people who yawned or rolled their eyes once I used the word “meditation.” Some common phrases I heard included, “I can’t do it! I’ve already tried it too many times to count. My mind is all over the place.”

I always tell people that taking the first step is the most challenging part; anyone can meditate if they genuinely believe they can. The only thing you must do is be open to the process. I can be your guide, as I truly believe it can be life-changing for anyone who wants to discover inner peace.

Mindfulness and the practice of meditation can help you with any of your struggles. In our sessions together, I will use meditation to bring you relaxation and coach you on staying present and in the moment.
